Back in February, officials held a meeting to hear the public’s opinion on a new Ventnor short-term rental ordinance. They wanted to put a minimum stay requirement in place for rental units like other Jersey Shore communities. Previously, Ventnor never required a minimum stay. For some people, this brought up safety concerns. Well, we have an update.
Ventnor Short-Term Rental Ordinance Update
After listening to the concerns of some Ventnor property owners at a second meeting in March, officials agreed to table the minimum stay requirement…for now. One complaint officials heard from several homeowners was that the proposed ordinance didn’t address any of the safety concerns residents had. Also, many believed that even a two or three-day minimum requirement would not be enough. So many people coming and going every few days creates more parking issues than necessary.
Property owners suggested a five to seven-day minimum may help bring more families to the shore rather than major partiers. Families tend to be more mellow than young partiers. Plus, the original ordinance never placed an age requirement on it. Some Ventnor homeowners wanted to see a 21-year age minimum placed on renters. And they wanted to see an occupancy limit as well as emergency contacts listed at the entrance of each rental to help reduce overcrowding that may lead to safety concerns. City officials agreed to table the ordinance until they have a chance to address some of these concerns.
