Bass Pro Shop kicked off Santa’s Winter Wonderland last week. But we still have Thanksgiving to look forward to in a couple of weeks. At this time of year, we take a moment to reflect on the past year and give thanks for all of the blessings bestowed upon us. But for those facing food insecurity, the holidays prove an especially tough time. One way you can “pay it forward” this holiday season is by participating in the Margate Turkey Drive 2021.
Margate Turkey Drive 2021
Last year’s drive allowed Jewish Family Services to provide 800 meals to local people at Thanksgiving time. This year, they want to feed even more people. But they need your help to do so. When you donate $36, you provide one family an entire Thanksgiving feast. For your $16 donation, fill a bag with all of the trimmings (mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, stuffing, macaroni and cheese, corn, green beans, and cranberry sauce). Since yams and cranberry sauce tend to become a little scarce this time of year, JFS asks that you donate those separately if possible. This cuts down on their costs and ensures every bag gets filled up. Or you can donate grocery store gift cards or money. The gift cards will be passed out to families experiencing food insecurity this holiday season. The money helps JFS buy more food for the meals and trimmings. So, every bit helps.
Visit the Jewish Family Services website to donate online. You may also visit their Margate office to drop off a check. If neither of these options works for you, feel free to mail a check made payable to Jewish Family Services to 607 N Jerome Ave, Margate, NJ 08402.
Volunteers Needed
Once JFS buys the food they need to feed local families, they need help sorting and packing bags and boxes for those families to pick up. If you wish to volunteer your time for this, please contact Vanessa Smith or Mary DeMarco with Jewish Family Services Atlantic and Cape May Counties.
Holiday Food Drive
In addition to the Turkey Drive, JFS partnered with the Margate Homeowners Association to conduct a holiday food drive. Drop off canned and other non-perishable food items in front of Casels Market on Ventnor between 10 am and 1 pm on Sunday, November 21st. If you happen to shop inside the market during that time, please add a few extra items to your cart and deposit them out front on your way to your vehicle. All items collected will be donated to the food bank. Thank you!
