I’ve talked a lot about what we can do to help protect our planet. Snow. Rain. Flooding. Even an earthquake in New Jersey! Part of our crazy weather patterns come from Earth’s changing climate. Hard to believe, but it really is spring right now. And with spring comes the Cherry Blossom Festival.
What: Margate Cherry Blossom Festival 2024
Where: Margate Community Church (8900 N Ventnor Ave)
When: Sunday, April 14th, 12 pm to 4 pm
Admission: FREE
Margate Cherry Blossom Festival 2024
Dust off the tie-dye. It’s time for a spring festival unlike any other. This family-friendly event features tons of activities for the kids. They include a petting zoo, a craft booth, and kid-friendly games like egg and spoon races. Try a free Tai Chi demonstration (open to all ages). Plus, join in the mini-cornhole tournament planned for the afternoon. In keeping with the tie-dye theme, Dead Reckoning performs their tribute to the tunes of the Grateful Dead all afternoon long. Get there early to nab yourself a free tie-dyed bandana. These are only available while supplies last.
Learn about how changes both big and small impact the health of our planet from groups like the Surfrider Foundation, Earth First Native Plant Nursery, NJDEP AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassadors Program, the Margate Terrapin Turtle Rescue Project, and many more amazing organizations. For your comfort, organizers highly recommend bringing a blanket and/or chairs from home.
NexTrex Recycling
I’ve talked about how and where to recycle your electronics. I also discussed ways in which to reduce your plastic use this year. If you already implemented a recycling program of sorts in your home, good job! But did you know that things like plastic bags and the lightweight film used in the packaging of many food items do not go in your curbside recycling bin? Instead of tossing them into the regular trash, take them with you on your next visit to the grocery store. Many local stores provide a NexTrex recycling bin at the store’s entrance specifically for these items. In turn, these items are picked up and used in durable Trex decking. Help keep as much material out of landfills as possible. Recycle your plastic bags and packaging film through the NexTrex recycling program.
Earth Day Brunch Fundraiser
Speaking of NexTrex recycling, you can bring your plastic bags and packaging film with you to Defend Brigantine’s Earth Day Brunch Fundraiser at Provenza on April 21st. Drop them off at Acme located right next door to Provenza. How convenient! Tickets are still available for the brunch. Just scan the QR code in this post or visit the brunch’s event website here. When you do come, please make sure to say “hi” to me. I’d love to say “thank you” for your support in person. See you there!
