Thanksgiving Day is less than two weeks away. Time yet again to give thanks for all of the blessings you received over the past year. What is the best way to do that? By helping others, of course. One way to do that is by participating in the JFS Turkey Drive.
JFS Turkey Drive 2023
Jewish Family Services of Atlantic and Cape May Counties hosts their annual turkey drive at this time every year. Help them give a delicious Thanksgiving meal to the food-insecure families in our community. How? They offer three options. First, donate money. For every $45 donated, a family receives a Thanksgiving turkey with all of the trimmings. Second, fill a bag with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, yams, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, green beans, and corn. Then drop the bag off at the JFS offices in Margate. Third, purchase a $25 gift card at a local grocery store. These gift cards will be included with donated bags of sides so that families can purchase a turkey to complete their Thanksgiving meal. You can also donate the $25 online here for JFS to purchase cards in your stead. For more information about the turkey drive, please contact Vanessa Smith at 609-822-1108 ext 249 or send her an email. Thank you.
A Win for the Environment!
The health of our environment weighs heavily on my mind at all times. In fact, it’s one of the reasons I left engineering behind. At the beginning of October, I wrote about how harmful the wind farms that were planned to go up off our Jersey shoreline would be to our local environment. On Halloween, the Danish energy firm Orsted officially announced that all operations for building two wind farms off the Jersey Shore were canceled. While that means great news for New Jersey, Orsted announced that they still plan on developing wind farms off of New York’s shores. So, while we rejoice in the victory for our little neck of the woods, the fight remains to keep them out of our neighbor’s backyard as well.
