A new law that took effect in July 2022 targets all pre-1978 rental properties regarding Lead-Safe Certification. This law is being referred to as New Jersey’s Lead Safe Certification. It requires lead-paint inspections (visual and/or dust wipes) on all nonexempt rental properties at turnover. Additionally, every three years going forward, it will increase lead-based paint hazard education to state residents and will fund New Jerseys Lead Hazard Control Assistance Act. To help homeowners understand this new law, the Atlantic-Cape May Regional Hub of Sustainable Jersey Green Teams will be hosting their Taking the Lead on Lead Virtual Workshop. And everyone attends for free.

Taking the Lead on Lead Virtual Workshop
In July 2020, the ACMC Hub hosted a lead educational workshop as part of our action points for recertification regarding lead. This workshop will bring us further up to date. Although lead paint and lead in gasoline have been banned, it is still a prevalent problem. It can still be found in a variety of products (mostly from overseas) and it continues to affect children, especially those living in lower-income households.
