How did you spend your Thanksgiving this year? Safely, I hope. I know that my family and I did. Thank you to everyone who donated to the JFS Turkey Drive this year. Please remember, though, that COVID hit households harder than normal this year. They still need donations to continue stocking their food pantry for the weeks ahead. So, please visit the JFS website to donate what you can today. Now that Thanksgiving is over, it is time to shop! Help support our local entrepreneurs by shopping Margate Small Business Weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
Margate Small Business Weekend 2020
In 2020, COVID-19 hit small businesses the most. Many local entrepreneurs went out of business for good. Luckily, some still hold on…but barely. If you need gifts for Hanukkah, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries or other major events, spend your money during Margate Small Business Weekend this Saturday and Sunday (November 28th and 29th). As of November 16th, the governor requires all residents to wear masks indoors when visiting public spaces and outdoors whenever maintaining an appropriate social distance proves difficult. Local businesses plan on adhering to these restrictions as well. So, please wear your mask when you visit a local establishment this weekend.
Many businesses offer fantastic discounts to their patrons for Small Business Weekend. Remember, gift cards to favorite restaurants or stores help businesses stay afloat for the moment (by providing an influx of cash right now). Plus they make a fantastic stocking stuffer. This year, think outside the box for gift-giving ideas.
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
The fire department escorts Santa from their Washington Ave station on Saturday, November 28th at 12 pm. Unfortunately, he’s super busy this year and cannot stop to visit with kids or take pictures. But you can wave to him from the sidelines along Ventnor and Essex. Drop off you letters to Santa in the specially marked mailbox located at Bocca Coal Fired Bistro on Ventnor anytime this weekend. The staff promises to make sure Santa receives every single letter in that mailbox in time for Christmas.
Prizes Galore Throughout the Weekend
The Margate Business Association sponsors several contests over Margate Small Business Weekend to encourage shopping locally. “Receipts are All the Rage” bestows a $200 gift card to use on a shopping spree of your choice to the grand prize winner. Just take a photo of your receipt for anything purchased between today and Sunday night (November 29th). Email the receipt to [email protected]. In addition to the grand prize winner, three additional winners will be chosen at random for a gift card to the business noted on the receipt.
“Your Favorite Business” contest provides a gift card to a random individual that uploads a photo of themselves in front of their favorite local business. Simply email the photo to [email protected] to be included in the random drawing. Use your social media to “Share This Post” by offering a shout-out online. Visit the MBA’s website to find out which businesses are participating. And make sure you tag the business and include #SHOPMARGATENJ on your post to be considered in the random drawing.
Happy holidays everybody!
