Did you know that the United States creates 268 million tons of waste each year? Of that, 140 million tons end up in landfills. Recycling wherever possible helps reduce this burden on our landfills. So, if you use products with recyclable packaging..or, better yet, zero-waste packaging like beeswax or laundry sheets (instead of liquid detergent), good for you! Next month marks the first anniversary of the NJ plastic bag ban. What do you do with your old personal financial and/or medical paperwork? Bring it to the Margate Shredding Event later this month for safe, secure disposal.

Margate Shredding Event – Spring 2023
The springtime Margate Shredding Event takes place on Saturday, April 22nd from 9 am to 12 pm on the lawn outside the Public Works Garage. Any Margate resident may bring old bank statements, credit card statements, and anything else with sensitive personal information on it to the event for safe and secure disposal. The City provides this service absolutely free of charge. However, you must present proof of residency when you drop your papers off. If you miss this spring event, another one takes place in the fall (November 18th).
Do you own a shredder and wish to dispose of this waste at home? While office paper, newspapers, magazines, and old phone books can go in your recycle bin, did you know that shredded paper cannot? It creates too big of a mess when handling, traveling, and processing it at the recycling facility. Instead, it must be boxed separately in either a cardboard box or a paper bag. Secure the container with either tape or staples. Then, place the box or bag inside the recycling bin.
E-Recycling at the Jersey Shore
As a reminder, the Atlantic County Utilities Authority does not accept old electronics (laptops, PCs, cell phones, monitors, etc.). Instead, you can drop them off at other locations around the Jersey Shore. To find out what organizations accept e-recycling items near you, visit the ACUA website. You’ll find where to go located under the “For Residents” tab at the bottom of the page.
