COVID hit many households especially hard this year. In fact, Atlantic County appears set to become the county with the highest number of food-insecure households in the entire state. The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) wants to change this. But they need your help. Please consider joining the ACUA Food Drive in Margate and Ventnor this week to ensure that our neighbors can put food on the table for themselves and their families this holiday season.
ACUA Food Drive in Margate and Ventnor
ACUA makes it super easy to participate in their food drive this year. First, look through your pantry for any extra non-perishable food items. Canned fruits and vegetables. Instant potatoes. Mac and cheese. Potted meat. Canned soup. Everything helps. After that, bag it all up. Next, print out a label to add to each bag. Make sure it features prominently on each bag. This helps the ACUA identify it for pickup. Then, set it out at the curb on your designated recycling day. For Margate residents, it is your recycling day between today and December 17th. For Ventnor residents, it runs between now and December 18th. They take all donations received and deliver them to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey.
Community Food Bank of New Jersey
Our local food bank supplied more than 57 million (yes, that’s million) meals to struggling individuals between March and November of this year alone. This includes emergency food kits, meals to children, and frozen meals delivered to homebound residents. While the government begins to distribute COVID-19 vaccines, officials expect that this global pandemic will continue to affect us into the second quarter of 2021 at the very least. Food banks all around the country report seeing more and more people in need showing up at their doors. If you were able to continue working and find yourself blessed with more than enough to take care of your family this holiday season, please consider donating to the ACUA food drive. But, if you miss your date to donate, consider visiting the CFBNJ website to donate directly. Every dollar they receive translates into three meals to feed our hungry neighbors. Thank you!
