Living in Atlantic City
Atlantic City is located on Absecon Island in Atlantic County. It is approximately 60 miles southeast of Philadelphia and about 100 miles south, southwest of New York. The city has a humid subtropical climate, especially during the summer.
During this time, the city gets a sea breeze off the ocean that often makes daytime temperatures much cooler than inland areas, making it a prime location for beating the summer heat from June through September. Winters are cool, and spring and autumn are variable, although they are typically mild with low humidity.
The city is also a hotspot for popular Jersey Shore events, such as top concerts, championship boxing, celebrity sightings, and family-friendly Boardwalk Hall events, and it offers an abundance of outdoor activities and entertainment: casinos, fishing, golfing, shopping, spas, and various water sports.
Atlantic City Schools
The educational system is served primarily by the Atlantic City School District. This district encompasses ten elementary and middle schools and one high school.
The District is committed to increasing student learning and improving teaching in the core academic areas by using instructional strategies aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Parents are active partners and key stakeholders with the school district to support their students’ intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth.
